On September 15, 2023, CEM Global Solutions hosted its first Enterprise Cloud Solutions Conference, bringing together CIOs, cloud architects, platform engineers, and delivery leaders from across the Midwest. The one-day event explored the most pressing questions facing enterprise cloud programs today, from hybrid architecture to cost control, security, and the operating model that holds everything together.

Opening Keynote: The Hybrid Cloud Reality

The day opened with a keynote on what hybrid cloud actually looks like inside large enterprises in 2023. Most organizations are not choosing a single cloud. They are running workloads across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and private data centers simultaneously, and the complexity of that reality is the real challenge. The session covered practical architecture patterns, landing zone design, and the governance guardrails that let teams move quickly without creating risk.

Topics Discussed Throughout the Day

  • Multi-Cloud Architecture: Designing workloads that remain portable across AWS, Azure, and GCP without overengineering.
  • ServiceNow as the Enterprise Control Plane: Using ITSM, ITOM, and SPM to unify visibility across hybrid environments.
  • Cloud Security and Compliance: Building zero-trust patterns that satisfy SOC 2, HIPAA, and FedRAMP auditors.
  • FinOps and Cloud Cost Control: Turning cloud spend into a board-level metric with clear accountability.
  • Cloud Migration Playbooks: Moving mission-critical workloads with minimal downtime using staged cutover and data sync strategies.
  • Data Platforms on the Cloud: Modern lakehouse patterns, streaming architectures, and governance for analytics at scale.
  • DevOps and Platform Engineering: Internal developer platforms, golden paths, and the rise of the platform team.
  • AI and ML Workloads in the Cloud: GPU capacity planning, model lifecycle management, and responsible AI guardrails.
  • Legacy Modernization: Practical approaches to refactoring, replatforming, and retiring legacy systems.
  • Building the Cloud Operating Model: Cloud Centers of Excellence, funding models, and skill development for internal teams.

Customer Spotlight Panels

Two panels brought customer stories directly to the stage. The first featured a regional healthcare system that migrated its clinical analytics platform to the cloud over eighteen months, consolidating seven data sources and reducing report turnaround from days to minutes. The second panel spotlighted a manufacturer that rebuilt its supply chain visibility system on a modern cloud data platform, giving planners real-time inventory and demand signals across fifteen plants.

Hands-On Workshops

Afternoon workshops gave attendees time with the technology. Participants worked through a ServiceNow ITOM discovery configuration, an AWS landing zone setup with automated guardrails, and a FinOps tagging exercise using real anonymized bills. These sessions consistently ranked highest in attendee feedback because they turned abstract concepts into muscle memory.

Closing Themes

Three themes ran through every session. First, cloud success is no longer about infrastructure. It is about the operating model, governance, and talent that surround the platform. Second, security and FinOps must be designed in from the start, not added after the fact. Third, the most effective cloud programs are the ones that treat platform engineering as a product discipline with clear customers inside the organization.

Looking Ahead

We closed the day with a preview of our 2024 roadmap, including new accelerators for ServiceNow implementations, a reference architecture for multi-cloud observability, and a deeper investment in FinOps enablement. Attendees also received early details on the 2024 Cloud Solutions Summit, which will take the conversation from hybrid cloud into the AI-native era.

The most valuable part of the day was the hallway conversations. Leaders learning from other leaders, comparing notes on what worked, what failed, and what is next.

On behalf of the entire CEM Global Solutions team, thank you to every speaker, sponsor, partner, and attendee who made the 2023 Enterprise Cloud Solutions Conference a success. We look forward to seeing you at our next gathering.
